aftercare:
-
Get a good amount of sleep the night before.
Eat a hefty breakfast
Lightly exfoliate the area 2-3 days leading up to your tattoo appointment
If you’re a hairy individual do not shave BUT you can help me out by trimming it down lightly
Specifically Neck/Head tattoos I recommend setting up a straight-razor shave with your trusted barber for anyone that can grow a beard. It helps immensely in the application.
Stay out of the sun
Drink plenty of water
After a long session it can feel very similar to a long day at the pool or beach, set yourself up for a cozy day after getting home. Your body will need some extra rest to recover
-
After getting home
Wash hands thoroughly and remove bandage.
Wash with warm - lukewarm water with an antibacterial soap. I usually recommend Dial Gold or Dial Spring Water Foaming hand soap for a gentlier option.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel
Allow to air dry for 5-10 minutes
Apply recommended ointment ( Hustle Butter, Mad Rabbit, A&D if you are a seasoned veteran when it comes to collecting tattoos I recommend whatever has worked best for your skin type) with a very light layer. You do NOT want a thick gaze. Take your time to rub the ointment in especially in the evenings before bed
Over moisturizing can cause prolonged healing and complications even excess red bumps around the tattoo - if this happens it is a good sign you have over moisturized. Less is more :)
Repeat 2-3 times a day for the first 3-5 days. With keeping an extra strong eye on what your tattoo is coming in contact with in the first 1-3 days. Your tattoo is an open wound so treat it as such
After a week you can switch to 1-2 times a day and even switch to a light lotion or shae butter especially before going to bed.
Do not pick or scratch at it, resist the urge - instead lightly slap at it to help with any itchiness
After three weeks your tattoo should be mostly healed. Tattoos can take between 1-3 months to fully settle into the skin after healing
-
You do not have to do anything but keep a watchful eye on the bandage for the next 48hrs. If your bandage is peeling back and revealing any of the fresh work that has been done you need to remove the bandage - the seal is broken and no longer serving a purpose.
When removing the second skin
Wash hands thoroughly
Use the antibacterial soap that was recommended with warm water and start to slowly pull from a corner that’s most easily accessible for you. Pull down, away from the tattoo keeping in mind a command strip and how you remove one from the wall (successfully haha) pulling down to lessen the friction. This will take alittle longer but have patience with it.
After removing the bandage refer to the Regular Healing Procedure steps above :)
-
You want to avoid direct sun exposure for as long as you can during the healing process.
Avoid Beaches, Pools and Saunas you do NOT want to submerge your fresh tattoo ( Keep this in mind before booking and let me know about any trips so we can plan sessions accordingly :)
You can shower but try to keep the tattoo out of the direct flow for longer than necessary
After your tattoo is fully healed I recommend the highest spf you can find
-
I offer free touch ups for the first six months - a year depending on project.
If I can tell there’s been neglect on the part of the client this may differ
-
Try your best to keep your furry friends away from your tattoo - this is a huge infection risk.
If your pets sleep in bed with you I’d recommend putting a clean towel down or putting down fresh sheets entirely to avoid any complications
-
With a fresh tattoo it is recommended to stay out of the gym for the first 1-3 days afterward you can workout but try not to have it be excessive movement or sweating in the area. (For example, if you just got an elbow piece I wouldn’t start working arms to lessen the movement causing any premature loss of pigment or healing stress) If you’re worried I’d advise just taking a week off from the gym.
Use common sense and keep your hygiene in mind
